Brent A. Patterson, Partner

Brent A. Patterson, originally from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Brent spent his summers at his grandmother’s home in Franklin, North Carolina. Upon his graduation from Louisiana State University, he moved to Winston Salem and graduated law school at Wake Forest University in 1992. Brent worked for two years in Charlotte for the law firm of Blakeney and Alexander doing primarily labor and employment defense work. He moved his practice to Gastonia, North Carolina in 1994.

After “changing sides,” Brent realized that he wanted to work fighting for individuals against businesses and insurance companies who were trying to deny these people their rights. His focus has been on personal injury, medical malpractice, worker’s compensation and general negligence claims.

Brent spent ten years with the Tim L. Harris firm and as a partner in its successor, Harris, Ragan, Patterson & Rodgers. Patterson Adams was formed when Brent and Scott discovered that they shared a common interest in giving personal attention to each case including trying cases no matter the size in order to protect the rights of working people. Both Brent and Scott are dedicated to client service and seeking justice for the little guy. Brent has tried cases all over Western North Carolina, but has concentrated in Gaston, Cabarrus, Rowan and Mecklenburg Counties. He has taught a number of Continuing Legal Education classes on negligence and Trial Advocacy.  Brent has also served in the past as President of the Gaston and 27A Judicial District Bar Associations.

Because of his trial experience and dedication to his clients, Brent is often sought out by other attorneys that do not focus on injury claims. He has developed strong referral relationships in both North and South Carolina with fellow colleagues that practice in several different areas of the law.  Brent lives with his wife Benet and they have two adult children.

Scott M. Adams, Partner

Scott graduated from law school at Wake Forest University in 1997 and immediately went to work representing injured people by opening the Concord office of Tim L. Harris & Associates. He was amazed to learn how poorly injured people were treated by the insurance companies who were supposed to be "on your side," and quickly realized that he had chosen the right area of the law. Scott loves to fight for "the little guy" against these powerful companies and to do whatever is necessary to ensure justice for his clients.

While working for the Harris, Scott met Brent Patterson, who shared his philosophy of client service, hard work, and dedication to justice. It was while the two were working together as partners in that firm that Patterson Adams was first conceived.  Since opening its doors in 2005, Patterson & Adams has helped over 5,000 clients obtain justice through hard work and passionate advocacy.

Scott has tried cases throughout North Carolina, but has spent most of his time representing the people of Cabarrus and Rowan Counties. Scott believes in giving every one of his clients the kind of personal attention and concern that is not possible for the lawyers at the big city Mega-firms. Scott and his wife, Jolene, have three grown children and one granddaughter, who is the apple of his eye. They live in Concord, where he is actively involved in the community.  Scott’s interests include rugby, music and travel.

Toby Weast

Toby Weast wears many hats at Patterson Adams! He has been with the firm since day one. Before coming to Patterson Adams he was the Intake Coordinator for Tim L. Harris and Associates where he worked directly with his mentor, Tim L. Harris. Tim taught him the most important thing in this business which he has never forgotten: "Always care about your clients They are not case numbers or inventory, they are real people with real problems."

Toby was born and raised in Kannapolis and now resides in Gold Hill, Rowan County. He attended AL Brown High School and went to college at Cabarrus School of Nursing and Wingate College. After graduation, he began work at Cabarrus Memorial Hospital as a Registered Nurse, spending time in the operating room and ICU. He left the hospital to become the office nurse at the high-paced Metrolina Orthopedic.  While there, he assisted on major surgeries and became interested in soft tissue injuries. He started to develop a network of physical therapists and chiropractors to help patients seek conservative safe care.  While at Metrolina, he met Tim L. Harris,  who introduced him to the field of Legal Nurse Consulting. While working with Tim L. Harris, he quickly found that Brent and Scott shared some of his same passions.  And they have never looked back!

Toby is very busy in community projects. He is an Elder Chairman and Sunday School teacher at Sloan Lake Community Church. He is the director of the Kenneth Weast Memorial Toy Drive that helps thousands of children every year. He is on the Board of Advisors for Providence House Youth and on the Board of Directors at the local YMCA.  Toby also volunteers annually at the Special Olympics and Cabarrus County Group Homes.

Toby lives with his wife of 30 years and has 2 daughters, both of whom are married. His hobbies include spending time with his family, serving at his church, hunting, fishing and especially spending time with his grandchildren.
